The Audiencia Nacional closes the complaint against TOUS

The Audiencia Nacional closes the complaint against TOUS

The Judge of the Audiencia Nacional, Santiago Pedraz, has ordered the dismissal of the complaint against TOUS, rejecting any possible illegality in the commercialization of its gold and silver jewellery, which “would be guaranteed by law“ as precious metals. In the ruling, the magistrate concludes that no further action is required, as the complainants requested.

The Judge recalls the object of the investigation, which is limited to whether or not the silver jewellery made by TOUS with the electroformingtechnique is a precious metal and, specifically, whether it is a precious metal when it has a non-metallic nucleus inside it. Pedraz stresses that this question only concerns silver since, in the case of gold, the jewels made by Tous do not require more stability than the hardness of sterling gold.

After analysing the legislation on precious metals, the judge determinesthat it is permitted to keep non-metallic elements inside jewellery made with precious metals in order to give them stability. The judge rules out the commission of any crime by closing the investigation and settling all the controversy regarding this matter.

TOUS is a company that complies with all the world's precious metal certification standards. Likewise, electroforming is a technology endorsed by all the technical bodies of the Public Administration and allows for the production of jewellery of various shapes and sizes, at the same time lightweight and with hardly any welding. The technology is implemented in the productioncentre in Sabadell, the largest in the jewellery sector in Spain. With an investment of 5 million euros and 3.700 square meters, it currently employs 85 professionals and incorporates the most recent advances in environmental compliance and waste recovery. The factory is less than half an hour from the TOUS R+D+I centre, which permits continuous investment in new technologies.

TOUS leads the TOUS School of Jewellery and Crafts project, through which it educates young apprentices from all over the world in the profession of jewellery. TOUS is an industrial jewellery workshop that employs more than 4.000 professionals and this year celebrates 100 yearsof history with a presence in 54 countries and more than 700 shops.
